TRAILHEAD TO CAMP | NORTH PALISADE | STARLIGHT | THUNDERBOLT | CAMP TO TRAILHEAD We got an early start (about 5AM) so we'd have plenty of time to make it up N. Palisade, make the traverse to Starlight, and get back to camp before dark. The sun rose shortly after we started hiking. Getting close to our first break. That's North Palisade and Starlight in front of us. We'll be heading up the snow chute on the left side of the picture to the U-notch. A few minutes later the sun hit the peaks. This was to our right looking towards Thunderbolt (far left). Getting closer. Almost to the berschrund. Luckily there was a nice little snow bridge for us to cross on. We passed another climber here as he was waiting for his partner. They ended up turning back at that point and heading back to camp. Making our way up to the U-notch. Looking North from the U-notch, back the way we came. We left our crampons and ice axes here and picked them up on the way back. This was the view to the South looking towards Kings Canyon National Park. With our crampons and ice axes left behind, we made our way over to the start of the rock climbing.
